Campus Question – November 25, 2012

Tonight’s question, greetings, and banter here. (More)

Today on Fox News Sunday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said his party must address immigration reform and “leave the [abortion] issue alone.” On ABC’s This Week, Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) proposed capping deductions to raise tax revenues and on NBC’s Meet the Press Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said “The election is over. We have a speaker. The Democrats have a – oh, we all have a president” and they and the Senate leaders should get in a room and negotiate a solution. Speaking of leftovers, are yours gone yet?

Don’t be fooled by all the Republicans who say they’re ready to break ranks with Grover Norquist. They’re ready to do that if and only if President Obama and Democrats agree to benefit reductions for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid … and their “tax increase” proposal is limited to closing loopholes with no increase in the top marginal rate, capital gains rate, or carried interest rate. In other words … there won’t be much new revenue for the huge price they’re demanding.

Speaking of leftovers, those Republicans sure are past their use by date. Their ideas have expired. We need to get more of the message through in the 2014 mid-terms to knock the rest of the stuffing out of them.

I fail to be impressed by their demonstrations of porcine cosmetology. When they come out with something concrete, and even more importantly, workable, I’ll be willing to debate it.

My Thanksgiving leftovers are gone. I’m still working through the other leftovers that I had to put off eating because of Thanksgiving. ;-)

The Republican position will change only when the big funders tell them it is time to change. That will be after GE, Boeing, and Honeywell feel the pinch of canceled contracts.
