Don’t hold your breath waiting for Mitt Romney to repudiate Donald Trump and the birthers. His campaign announced today that Romney will not do so unless President Obama repudiates contributor Bill Maher, NBC’s David Gregory repudiates MSNBC’s Al Sharpton, and the New York Times‘ Gail Collins repudiates Charles Blow. If all of those somehow happened, would Team Romney move the goal posts and find still other people somewhere in the world who must be repudiated by someone else? |

The possibilities of the Repudiation game could be infinitely silly as the link shows. I wonder if Romney regrets that the Trump fundraiser and Trump’s hogging of the spotlight took some of the air out of his balloon for cinching the nomination with the Texas results.
Romney, supposedly in search of a boring VP who won’t eclipse him, may soon find a need for more ‘boring’ supporters. I do think the need to control the message will drive Romney and not any moral need to denounce anything crazy that the far right seems to gin up.

Seriously, Mr. Romney? You’ll repudiate a racist attack on the President of the United States – by someone who hosted a fundraiser where you appeared personally – when television hosts and newspaper columnists repudiate colleagues who say or have in the past said something you don’t like? How many other goal posts do you plan to move between now and November?

Mitt will do or say anything to pander to the current Republican base. Which, increasingly, seems to be racist, intolerant, and not terribly educated. They think Trump is wonderful, because, after all, he’s on the teevee and has lots of money, and says things that feed their biases. So obviously, Mitt isn’t going to repudiate him, just as he didn’t Bennett who, after all, is his Arizona chairman, when he went birther.

Well, Springoff the Fourth is back in the nest. It took the two of us all day, but we moved his stuff from his campus apartment to Casa Crissie today. Most of it is piled in the living room for the time being, as he’ll be rearranging and settling in over the rest of the week. It’s nice to have him here. His next projects are finding a job and finding someone to assume the rest of his lease.
And if you’re in the mood to laugh for a couple of hours, check out The Other Guys. We tripped over it this afternoon while crashing after hauling boxes in 90° heat. It is beyond absurd. It makes Hot Fuzz seem like The French Connection. And it’s an absolute delight!
