Think Progress reported yesterday that New Hampshire Republicans have proposed two bills to enable domestic violence. HB 1581 would not allow police to make a domestic violence arrest unless the officer personally witnesses the attack or gets an warrant from a judge. HB 1608 would limit judges’ authority to order an arrest for violation of a domestic violence restraining order and stop judges from ordering those restrained to surrender weapons and not buy guns. Why are Republicans supporting domestic violence? |

Why? Why? Good grief. Some white men, present company excepted, think of women as property to which they have exclusive rights to do with whatever they want. I wonder which of the legislators proposing this have domestic violence episodes in their past. Hmmm.
I think addisnana is right. I suppose the New Hampshire Republicans will cite statistics from ‘men’s rights’ (aka male privilege) groups that howl about ‘false claims of domestic violence.’ I was shocked by the results of that Google search.
Then again, a North Carolina Republican wants to bring back public hanging … for abortion. I guess a lot of white males (present company excepted, as addisnana noted) really want to go back to the 19th century, or the 18th, or the 17th….
I should be amazed, but unfortunately, I’m not. That said, this is ridiculous and appalling! Makes me glad I’ll never live in New Hampshire. Virginia is bad enough!
That’s a hard bunch to figure out! Let me do some digging…..
Best, G
