Today's Buzz

Paris’ Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated today (1836). Also, the Summer Olympics resumed in London today (1948), after a 12-year hiatus during World War II. And British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and French President François Mitterand signed the agreement to build the Channel Tunnel (1987). Citius, Altius, Fortius.

Greetings and social banter here.

Good morning! ::hugggggs::

    You always make my Googles overheat … and so early in the morning:
    Citius, Altius, Fortius is the Olympic motto: Faster, Higher, Stronger.

    Except with the Chunnel, you would have to add Longius Timius Comingius since the Channel Tunnel was first proposed in 1802.

      Thanks for the public service of the Google. Now I don’t need to open another tab and do it myself. (Lazier is my motto?)

      • JanF

        I think that would be lazius ;-)

        Uh oh … can we give Coffee Spew Awards here at BPI? :grin:

        Good morning! ::hugggggs::

      Yes, I actually have a contract with Google to make the readers of Campus Chatter look up stuff. It’s a great deal, too. They offered me double what DailyKos pays. ;-)

      Good morning! ::hugggggs::

        If the NSA uses google searches to look for bad guys, I sure hope they have a filter that screens out requests generated by bpi, dailykos and the NYT crossword. Otherwise someone may be doing a diary to raise bail for me.

    Hello to all campus friends.

    I spent the day productively, getting my hair cut and paying today’s bills. I got the love note from Social Security, so the reply will be in the mail tomorrow. Changed a fluorescent lamp, bought yet more mousetraps, so overall, things are moving along. It appears that SS intercepted this month’s check, so I think I am in the clear with them.

    Hugs to all, I am hanging in there, not that there’s much choice.

    Oh, I talked to the tree guy in Canada, and he said my property looks like a bomb went off. Neighbor will take pix, before next week’s cleanup, of sorts.

      Great to see you, riverlover. Glad things are settling down somewhat. I am sure there will be a thousand other reminders that will be hard to deal with over the next months…not just the love note from Social Security. A close friend had to be the executor of her Dad’s estate and the paperwork and frustration and constant reminders of loss were hard for her. It was almost as though she was not allowed a proper time to grieve because she was tossed into the estate settlement part immediately.

      Hiya riverlover. It’s always a delight to see you, and I’m happy to hear life is moving back to some semblance of normalcy. It won’t be smooth or easy, and there will be lots of setbacks for grieving. That’s normal, for everyone.

      Sorry to hear about the problems with the cabin in Canada, and I hope the cleanup isn’t too expensive.

      Good afternoon! ::hugggggs::
